The Island of Sri Lanka lies in the Indian Ocean, off the Southern Coast of India. The total land area is 65,609.88 square kilometers. The maximum length of the island is 353,511 kilometers at its widest point it measures 183,302 kilometers. The relief features comprise a mountainous mass a little south of center with heights exceeding 2,438.4 meters surrounded by broad plains. The drainage is radially patterned.
As the Island is in close proximity to the equator, the mean temperature is high averaging 270C in the low-lands. However the altitude modifies the temperature in the central highlands. The highest temperature for the island are recorded in the north, north west, east and north east as a rule in March to June but they rarely exceed 35C. The coolest period is from November to January. Sea temperature as a rule remains around 27C.
Sri Lanka receives precipitation mainly from conventional reins and from two monsoons. The south-west monsoon brings rain mainly from May to July to the southern and western lowlands and the central hills. Rain from the north-east monsoon falls in December and January in the northern and eastern sectors of the Island.

From January to October this year, the BOI has received 161 applications to invest in Sri Lanka originating from various capitals in the world. The total value of these proposed investment are US $ 4.39 billion. All these investments are meant for sustainable development.
